Eastview Saskatoon; A brief history
Eastview Saskatoon is a mainly residential neighbourhood located in south-central Saskatoon. It is bounded by Louise Street to the north, Circle Drive to the south and east, and Preston Avenue to the west. Eastview Saskatoon consists mainly of low-density, single detached dwellings, low-rise apartment buildings and semi-detached houses. Residential development in the Eastview area began sometime after 1946 but the vast majority of the homes that exist in the area today were built between 1961 and 1980.
With 3,450 residents Eastview is considered a middle-income neighborhood, with an average household income of $75,269, an average home value of $328,650 and a home ownership rate of 70.1%.
Eastview has three elementary schools including Ecole Alvin Buckwold School and John Dolan School in the public system, and Pope John Paul II School in the catholic school system.
Eastview is unique in that all the streets within it, aside from Arlington Avenue, share the common name of “East”. When the streets were named in 1964, the neighbourhood was on the city’s eastern edge, giving its residents a true “east view”.
Eastview has very little in the way of commercial development, aside from the Eastview Shopping Centre, but an abundance of shopping opportunities are closely located including Market Mall, Stonegate Shopping Centre and The Centre on 8th Street. The area’s closeness to Circle Drive makes the trip to downtown Saskatoon easily accessible by car or public transit.
With over forty acres of public park space, area residents can enjoy a variety of activities including baseball, basketball and soccer. With a paddling pool, outdoor ice rinks, numerous creative playgrounds and plenty of cycling and walking paths Eastview is an ideal family neighborhood.
