Confederation Park Saskatoon; A brief history

Confederation Park Saskatoon  first appeared on city maps in the late 1960s, with development beginning in the early 70s. Confederation Park is a neighbourhood in west Saskatoon where most  street names in the community are those of prominent politicians from Canadian history, primarily prime ministers, premiers and fathers of confederation. Some streets have also been named after governors-general. Full development of the Confederation Park Saskatoon neighbourhood did not occur until the mid-2000s with the construction of one final street, Blakeney Crescent, honoring former Saskatchewan premier Allan Blakeney. In 2012, a small extension to the community was added as part of the area concept plan for the new neighborhood of Kensington, involving a short extension of Steeves Avenue to connect with the realigned 33rd Street. This will allows for facilitation of a small number of additional dwellings to be constructed.

The suburb is fashioned around Parc Canada, a 40.5-acre (164,000 m2) park area comprising Bishop Roberecki School and Confederation Park School. The northern boundary is 33rd Street West and the eastern is Confederation Drive. To the west of Confederation Park is the  new neighbourhood of Kensington which is currently under development.

Ideally located near many services and amenities residents of Confederation Park Saskatoon are able to take advantage of the Cosmo Civic Centre and it’s indoor skating rink, fitness facilities, that are also suitable for martial arts, judo, defensive training and gymnastics. The facility also houses the Carlyle King Library and much more.  Another option is the Shaw Centre just minutes away. Families can enjoy swimming in a variety of pools, walk on the indoor walking track or an early morning workout in the fitness centre. Confederation Park Mall, and other strip malls offer a variety of retail outlets including banks, restaurants, and other business services. If you’re looking for more, the Blairmore Suburban Centre is close by with Walmart, Lowes and many other stores too numerous to mention.
