College Park West Saskatoon; A brief history

Located near the University of Saskatchewan, College Park West Saskatoon features over 20 acres of beautiful parkland with adjacent elementary schools and high schools.

College Park is a predominantly residential neighborhood located in the east-central part of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Composed mainly of single-family detached dwellings but a sizable number of high-density, multiple-unit dwellings. The area is home to approximately 5,411 residents. College Park Saskatoon is considered a middle-income area, with an average household income of $78,747, an average home value of $345,050 and a home ownership rate of 60.4%.

Before being part of Saskatoon, the land for College Park West was used for agriculture. George Stephenson, who ranched in the Dundurn area in the 1880s, operated a dairy farm in along 8th Street until 1911. The intersection of 8th Street and Central Avenue (now Acadia Drive) was referred to as “Stephenson’s Corner” for many years.

Established in the late 1950’s and annexed in the period between 1955 and 1959. Home construction was at its peak from 1961 until 1980, though the “College Park” name wasn’t applied until the late 1960s.

Plenty of shopping opportunities exist within minutes of the area such as The Centre which is a major shopping centre located south-east of the junction of Circle Drive and 8th Street in the Wildwood neighborhood and Downtown Saskatoon is easily accessible via College Drive and the 25th Street Bridge
