Briarwood Saskatoon; A brief history
Briarwood Saskatoon is a residential neighbourhood located in the southeast area of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Most of its homeowners reside in low-density, single family houses. The location is home to 4,987 residents. The area is an above average high-income area, with an average household income of $148,762, Homes in Briarwood Saskatoon for sale have an average worth of $513,781 and rate of home ownership is 96.6%. The land where Briarwood now exists was initially farmland, owned by the late Mike Boychuk. He would eventually become the proprietor of Boychuk Construction, a major Saskatoon homebuilder founded in 1945. Briarwood’s western boundary Boychuk Drive was named after him. The land was annexed by the city in the duration in between 1975 and 1979. House building and construction began in 1988, but reached its optimal between 1996 and 2001. Unlike many Saskatoon neighbourhoods, which name roads to honour notable people or locations, Briarwood’s streets all begin with the letter “B”. This makes Briarwood and the area of Eastview somewhat special with their street naming conventions. The Saskatoon Public School Division as well as Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division chose not to develop schools in Briarwood, much to the resentment of some locals, who purchased houses presuming that institutions would certainly be built. A dispute occurred between home owners as well as the land developers that wanted to have the land rezoned for houses. Briarwood exists within the federal electorate district of Saskatoon-Grasswood. It is presently represented by Kevin Waugh of the Conservative Party of Canada, first elected in 2015.
